You and Your Parents

Let me just start by saying that if you have lost your biological  parents this post is still for you, as you might have adopted or spiritual parents like Paul who was a father to many in the early church.

For you can have 10,000 instructors in Christ, but you can’t have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel– 1 Corinthians 4:15

Parents are important. Nobody dropped from the sky and even if your parents died just after you were born, you can still or might have adopted a person(s) whose shoulders you have stood on to be able to survive in this world.

God expects us to take care of those people!

The bible mentions repeatedly about honouring parents . We first see it in Exodus 20:12 when the Lord was talking to the Israelites

Honor your father and your mother so that you may have a long life in the land that the Lord your God is giving you

Then, we also see the Holy Spirit talk about the same thing among other scriptures through  Paul in the New Testament.

Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise – Ephesians 6:2

 It is then obvious that honouring one’s parents is important to God. I don’t care what He or She did to you. The bible says you must honour. Fulfil your part and leave the rest to God.

You probably have children or on your way to having them and you will not be a very happy person if your children severe ties with you because of a mistake you made.

Maybe you were abused or badly hurt. Of course, some people need space but how about you keep praying for that abusive parent as you keep your space.

Keep trying, keep praying and see what God does. Remember as a child of God, it ceased to be about you. It is only about Jesus!

So we must not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.Galatians 6:9

If you don’t know Jesus, you need to know Him as it is only through Him that you can access God.

Get to know, commit to Him and watch Him fix your life.
