How to Guard Your Heart: Embracing Personal Responsibility in Your Faith Journey

If there is anything I’ve learnt in the past couple of years is that my life is my responsibility and I am responsible for how it goes.

This means that I am responsible for what I think about and What I set my heart on. You know why? Because as my heart goes so my life goes.

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life- Proverbs 4:23. The scripture says, you should guard it, no one else will do it for you.

In my walk with the Lord, I’ve noticed that a lot of us are lazy and expect God to do everything for us. But let me tell you, my dear brother and sister, He will not do everything for you. Holy Spirit is Helper (John 14:26) which implies that there is someone who needs help. Look at your life like a four-corner Table and you holding one end of it while the Holy Spirit holds the other end.

Holy Spirit will not pray for you if you will not open your mouth. He will not fast for you, if you refuse to. Sure you can ask Him to help you desire His will for you but what I am saying is that He will not live out your life for you or guard your heart for you. He will help you! That is His role.

Today I want to encourage you to set guardrails over your heart because the enemy will surely come and keep coming. He will come with accusations from your past, with anxiety, with fear, with trauma but you must set guardrails and even if it feels like you are failing, don’t worry because the word of God works and the Holy Spirit is in you, if you don’t give up, He wont give up. Hallelujah, glory to God forever!

One of my personal “guard rails” is Galatians 2:20

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”Galatians 2:20 NKJV.

Protect your mind with God’s word today because He will hold you responsible for your life and for the people He has trusted you with. Don’t give up, don’t give in. Like my Father once told me “satan cannot force you to do anything”.

Remember that You are loved and you’ve been bought with a price.

Your sister,

Favour
