How love works

I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another. ³⁵ By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”- John 13:34

Unfortunately, the most misused phrase in the English language is “I love you”. Especially in Nigeria, where you get into a courtship and bros is already stating “I love you” after a day or two.

I just learnt that God has not called us to love our neighbours as ourselves like in the Old Testament (before Jesus), rather, He has called us to love our neighbours like He has loved us!

Therefore, if need be, you should be able to die for the next person.

“Woah Woah, Favour, talk is cheap”!

Yes it is o, but  my Bible tells me that

This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us-Romans 5:5

Therefore, you have the ability to love the next person just as Jesus loves you because the love of God has been poured and spread in your heart.

Yes! You can FORGIVE AND FORGET because Jesus has loved you that much.

“But Favour I am not Jesus”

You have His Spirit living on the inside of you. You have been called to live just as He lived.

“But Favour she doesn’t deserve my love; you don’t know what she has done to me”

That’s funny because you didn’t deserve His love either, only you and Him know how much you messed up yet Jesus has loved you anyway.

“For rarely will someone die for a just person—though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. 8 But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us! 9 Much more then, since we have now been declared righteous by His blood, we will be saved through Him from wrath” – Romans 5:7-9

See it is not about how that person makes you feel. The English dictionary tells us that” love is a variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes that ranges from interpersonal affection” but I beg to differ because true love; the love of God is not about feelings!  It is your nature. God is a love God and you are a love child of a love God therefore STOP TREATING PEOPLE BASED ON HOW YOU FEEL.

It is not love your neighbour as yourself, it is love as Jesus has  has loved you!
