But He gives greater grace. Therefore, He says:God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble: James 4:6
Pride is something I have had to deal with in my personal life.
I know , I haven’t achieved anything yet, is there a reason to be proud?
That was my exact thought! However, pride can come for anybody, you just have to learn to deal with the menace.
Recently, I have been getting comments and compliments on my singing voice which is fantastic but I feared. Up until this morning I feared that it will get into my head which will lead to my misbehaviour.
You know…..that feeling that you are better than everyone else just because of a talent that was given to you.
I have friends that are excelling at what the Lord has placed in their hands and I have often wondered how they didn’t let it get to their heads. I have pondered and hoped that one day when the Master begins to use me as an instrument in His kingdom, I would redirect all compliments and comments to Him.
This morning as I meditated on these things, I heard the Holy Spirit whisper to me ” Favour look to Jesus and pride or the fear of it will disappear”.
Why?
Jesus is the perfect example.
“Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus,Who, existing in the form of God,did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage.Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men.And when He had come as a man in His external form,8 He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death—even to death on a cross.9 For this reason God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name” – Philippians 2:5-9
Never ever, think you are better than anyone else because of something you have achieved. As a matter of fact, God helped you achieve it. Nobody is self-made no matter how ambitious and hardworking the individual is. You could have died with the ambition and hard work!
Want to keep excelling?
“Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves” – Philippians 2:3
Your work might be better but You are not better than anybody! It is all God’s mercy and unmerited favour.
“When pride comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom” – Proverbs 11:2.
“When people come up and give me a compliment… I take each remark as if it were a flower. At the end of the day I lift up the bouquet of flowers I have gathered throughout the day and say, ‘Here you are, Lord, it is all Yours”– Corrie Ten Boom
You are loved and highly longed for,
Favour
