It is good for a man to bear the yoke
while he is still young.- Lamentations 3:27
As a Nigerian, I grew up hearing this phrase in some prayers “May she/he live to eat the fruit of her labour”.
Now being an adult, I sometimes see old people live on the streets and beg for small change . I wonder what happened to them as young people. Did they waste their lives or did they just find themselves in the situation? Why aren’t they eating fruits of their labours? Do they have Jesus? Did they listen to the Holy Spirit?
Although only God can answer these questions, I know that lots of young people live according to principle YOLO (You only live once). Interestingly, God does not want us to have a “live for today mentality”. We must live for others and for tomorrow! We must be strategic and focused instead of wasting time on irrelevant things and discussions that add no value to one’s life.
Strategy and focus will allow an individual produce fruits from labour and enable the person “eat the fruits of the labour”.
Sometimes after being exhausted from work, I wonder what the point of everything is. I don’t want to be that person that works, works and pay bills.
Being in one’s prime means that there is the capacity to do so much and prepare for when the “night” comes. We must work NOW so that in our 60s and 70s there would be” fruits of labours” to reap from.
If you don’t have a job, look to the HOLY SPIRIT to advise you on steps to take so that there will be fruits of labour to be reaped.
And not just financially, I also want to encourage you to work in your christian life as well. Reduce your sleep time if you need to. Invest time in study of the word and in books that will enhance your skills and the knowledge of God. Spend time with the Holy Spirit as He alone can empower you with strategy and lead you properly.
Night is coming when no one can work. John9:4B

Spend your youthful years wisely.
You are loved and highly longed for.
