Hi there,
Today, I would like to share with you how I developed (and keep developing) a passion for prayer. Yes, prayer 😊.I became born-again in 2007 but only started actively pursuing God in 2014. Before 2014, I was lukewarm, complacent and permissive – anything went for me. I watched whatever I wanted to, listened to whatever I wanted as long as it didn’t hurt anybody. I pretty much just went by as a ‘regular’ christian. The truth is that God does not want us to be ‘regular’ christians, He wants us all to be on fire for Him (Revelation 3:15-16). Yes, we all cannot be pastors or ministers but we can be representatives of his kingdom in all our dealings either in business or at a 9-5 job.
We have all been called to be ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20).An ambassador is a living embodiment of a country in a foreign land for example, the American ambassador in Germany is basically America. He speaks for America in Germany, if you want to know what America is like, you should look at Him. In the same vein, as ambassadors of Christ on earth, we have been called to represent and enforce His kingdom on earth. Now what better way is there to enforce His kingdom on earth than to pray? I believe God is more interested in our praying that His will be done on earth than in our prayers for our personal needs. Don’t get me wrong, God cares for you deeply but His word says to seek Him first and then all your needs will be met. Your needs are nothing to Him, so chill, He’s got you (Matthew 6:27-33).
It is therefore important to grow beyond asking for personal needs to praying that His will be done on earth. People are dying everyday and are going to hell, why don’t we begin to pray that He will send more labourers to the field? (Matthew 9:37-38) Why don’t we begin to invest time praying for that man or woman that has serious life challenges? Yes, I know you have your own problems too but when you pray for others, you are inadvertently praying for yourself.
- Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert in this with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.Ephesians 6:18
- First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone -1 Timothy 2:1
So how do we develop this passion for prayer? We pray! Just as Apostle Paul tells us – to pray without ceasing. Many times, I don’t feel like praying so I listen to a lot of worship songs and in the midst of my listening I begin to pray. I also speak in tongues a lot, (maybe not yet) like Apostle Paul (1 Corinthians 14:18) but I speak in tongues as the Holy Spirit helps me.
When we pray in tongues we might not know what we are saying (most times) but the Holy Spirit is praying through us. You can be praying for your future by praying in tongues and you won’t even know. (I can write on speaking in tongues later, just leave a comment below if you would like to learn more).I pray when I am walking, doing chores or working. I just pray. You don’t have to shout. You can pray silently and God will still hear. Also, my friends are prayer warriors so when we hang out and I hear their prayer stories, it challenges me to pray more( Proverbs 27:17).

Basically, to develop a passion for prayer, you need to pray more. Seek the Holy Spirit for Him and not for what you can get, worship Him, speak in other tongues A LOT and surround yourself with people who pray. I therefore invite you to cultivate a prayer habit.
You are loved,
