BIG BROTHER

Although I barely spend time on Television, I took some time off today from my routine and  payed attention to the reality show “Big Brother Naija”.

For those of you that don’t live in Africa and know nothing about Big Brother Naija but have read George Orwell’s 1984.  Big Brother in both contexts share similar characteristics. One of which is that Big Brother sees everything and Big Brother is without reproach.

Although, one interesting thing about the television show is that families of participants watch their relatives and are eagerly expecting them to win. Families provide support basically by watching. In the show today, family members visited participants.

This evening as I sat at the Lord’s feet, the Holy Spirit compared the scenario to Hebrews 12:1

“Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us”

So God is Big Brother, watching every one, seeing your deepest thoughts and motives. He  is constantly hoping that you choose Him at every turn.

God loves us so much but some of us deny His existence, some of us serve Him wrongly (by claiming there are other ways to Him besides Jesus) and refuse to accept His method and some of us pretend to serve Him but really serve ourselves.

Whatever category you are in, you need to know that Jesus loves you so much and is concerned about your success in this race. He wants you to win eternal life that has graciously been provided through His sacrifice.

Unlike the Big Brothers in the aforementioned contexts, God is not a dictator and He has given you free will but it is not enough to choose Him once and be like “Done! I have chosen you, leave me alone”. You need to choose Him every day!

Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance – Matthew 3:8

Choosing Him every day means living for Him every day because He is watching. It means not fornicating or committing adultery even if it is popular opinion . It means loving your clients as you do business with them because at the end of the day, your service is to the Lord.

It means your thoughts are that of love and purity because Big Brother (God) is seeing everything.

In the words of Heather Lindsey “The race is not a sprint but a marathon”.

God is watching!
