- ”Bless Jehovah, O my soul;and all that is within me,bless his holy name”.
- “Bless Jehovah ,O my soul, and forget not all his benefits”. (ASV) Psalm 103: 1 and 2
The above scripture intrigues me because so many times we fail to thank God for the ‘small’ things that he does and keeps doing for us. we forget all he has done and the things he is doing and focus on the things he hasn’t done.
As we know, Bless is a synonym for thanks and praise.
Verse one says
“Give praise to the lord, O my soul; let everything in me give praise to his holy name”(BBE)
Some of you may be thinking, “Things are not going my way, why am I thanking God”?
For one there is the occasional feel of the sun and wind on your face. Moreover, you can breathe oxygen free of charge.
Now do you know that in the University of Abuja (Nigeria) teaching hospital, a tank of medical oxygen per hour costs 1000 Nigerian Naira (6.1USD) ,just imagine if you have to live on that for 365 days, that would basically cost 8.7million Naira (53000USD) and God gives it to you for free.
You still think he hasn’t done enough?Go to the hospitals and see how much pain people are in. I am almost certain that if you are able to read this post then it’s not that bad.
See I understand that sometimes things do not necessarily go our way but I assure you that God is good and he expects you to praise him whether you feel like it or not.
Verse two says
“Give Praise to the lord, O my soul;let not all his blessings go from your memory”( BBE)
When you do not remember the “small” things he does daily, like waking you up from sleep in the morning and shielding you from domestic accidents as you go about your daily activities, how do you remember to thank him for the “big” things?.
Psalm 136 verse one says
“O give thanks to the lord, For he is good: and his mercy endureth forever”( KJV)
Personally, I did not fully understand how good or how Kind Jehovah is until I understood that there is a God who suffered on a cross for me about 2000 years ago just so that I would be privileged to enjoy eternal life.
Yeah, imagine the irony (God and Suffering), just for me and you. He definitely deserves to be praised.
See, Jehovah is GOOD, his mercies do not end. He loves you so much that he sent Jesus, his beloved son to die for you and I don’t think that you should forget God and take him for granted because things are not going your way.
In the words of Claus Westermann
“The coordination of ‘Bless’ and ‘Don’t forget’ expresses a profound truth.Only those who praise do not forget.Forgetting God and turning away from God begins when praise has been silenced’
Jesus loves us so much and he wants us to live for him by his grace.
Let us keep praising him as we live for him.

And it gets better, I have been touched. So in the times of emptiness when it seems like God is far away and the temptation might just overcome and turn us away, it just might be we have forgetting to praise. Praise will draw Him. God bless your gift and increase it.
Yes, Praise him all the way :)..Thank and Amen 🙂 🙂

There is so much need for us to think properly and thank God for His benefits in our lives, If we even think properly we will understand that we don’t deserve these things. God has only chosen to be merciful to us. And its so much to bless Him for. I’ve been so blessed by this post. More grace upon you!
True, Amen ,Thanks 🙂
