Why you should stop saying things you don’t mean

My first lesson on saying things I don’t mean happened some time in 2010..My fist year of University. If you are Nigerian, you know how there is a culture of ‘come and join me’ when eating, even if most people don’t mean it. So having recently moved to Kenya that year, I was elated to discover an ice cream shop which quickly became my go to shop for junk food. One evening after my class and going to shop for my beloved icecream and fries, I balanced in my room to eat when a lady came to hangout.

The Nigerian in me invited her to join me even though I didn’t mean it. She was like ‘oh yeah, sure’. You should have seen my face, it had a mixture of shock and sadness😲😵 lol. I had invited her and I couldn’t take back my invitation so I had to share. I must say that it didn’t feel good. It didn’t feel good not because I was selfish but because I was hungry and I didn’t really want to share, I just invited the lady out of courtesy. Well I learnt my lesson and pretty much stopped saying things I didn’t mean.

Recently, God dropped it in my heart to remind us that saying things we don’t mean doesn’t reflect our Father God. You know He is the God that says a thing and does it and if you claim to be His child then it is important to walk in His steps. We are ambassadors of God on planet earth, we are in the world but not of the world. We Must Represent Our Father. So if you are in the business of saying things you don’t mean, it’s time to stop and really mean what you say. Don’t follow the crowd or culture. Our culture should be based on the kingdom.

Basically, you should stop saying things you don’t mean because you will eventually get frustrated and it doesn’t reflect God.

Ephesians 4:22-24 (VOICE)
22 then you know to take off your former way of life, your crumpled old self—that dark blot of a soul corrupted by deceitful desire and lust— 23 to take a fresh breath and to let God renew your attitude and spirit. 24 Then you are ready to put on your new self, modeled after the very likeness of God: truthful, righteous, and holy.
