Struggling with letting go?

It is so easy to forget what God has done for us and hold on to offense. Let me remind you, God took your place in hell and has paid the price for your sins. YOU DID NOT DESERVE IT! Non of us did (do). This is why you must forgive others. You might think ‘but Favour, you don’t understand, I was treated unjustly and I just don’t know if I can forgive’ – Jesus was treated unjustly by humanity but He forgave us and invited us into His kingdom. ‘But Favour, I’ve been hurt in ways that should not even exist’ – Brethren, I understand perfectly since I’ve been there myself.

Some points about forgiveness include:

1. It is not easy on the flesh, if it was easy, God would not ask us to do it as it would be our default nature.
2. Whoever has offended us might not deserve our forgiveness, but just like we did not deserve it, God constantly has mercy on us. We therefore must be merciful just like our father.
3. You must forgive yourself to allow Jesus heal your heart. From my personal experience, I’ve come to realise that self forgiveness can be very difficult but to fulfil the plan of God for you and to please Him, YOU MUST FORGIVE YOURSELF!
Once you forgive yourself, then you are able to channel God’s love and mercy to others.

Now I am not saying that you should continue to put yourself in that situation that caused/or causes you pain. No. I am saying that you should forgive and remove yourself from the situation. The Bible says that we should give no place to the devil (Ephesians 4:27) so close that door of offense.

It is also important to note that forgiveness is not a one time thing and we must forgive every time that hurt surfaces. It is a choice. You can do it. FORGIVE!

‘Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you’ Ephesians 4:31-32
